From hand-picked local partners

My experience in EEgypt allowed me to develop an excellent network.

The local partners that I will recommend to you are carefully selected and are all French-speaking. Being well surrounded is the certainty of a successful trip.

Is Egypt safe to visit, especially for women?

Impossible to meet a travel enthusiast who does not dream of visiting Egypt. Its pyramids, its temples in Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel, its mythical river or its turquoise blue sea, Egypt has it all. Egypt is currently a cheap destination, one would expect the country to be overflowing with tourists.

But sadly, many people are worried about safety in Egypt because of the unrest following the 2011 revolution and reports of sexual harassment and terrorism.

So, as an Egypt expert who lives, works, walks, travels and hangs out in Egypt, let me tell you the truth.

1- Is terrorism still a problem in Egypt?

Do not be afraid, if terrorism is present in certain areas of Egypt, it does not concern the places you will visit. The violence is directed against the army and the police deep in the desert of the northern Sinai peninsula.

This area is totally controlled by the Egyptian authorities and is almost impossible to enter for local civilians and tourists. Any area that has the least 0.0001% terrorist attack is off-limits to tourists; security checkpoints are set up all over the Sinai for this.

Tourist police and army personnel are literally everywhere in the country; in every neighborhood and on all roads and highways between cities. If you are traveling by car, expect to go through several security checkpoints before reaching your final destination. There's nothing to worry about - they'll just ID everyone in the car (make sure you have your passport with you.) and occasionally search the car for anything suspicious.

On some routes (eg Aswan to Abu Simbel), tourists will be assigned a police escort, as another added security measure.

In a nutshell: you are likely to feel much safer in Egypt than in other terror-targeted locations, such as Paris, due to the sheer number of visible security forces.

Moreover, unlike France, the risk of aggression is extremely low in Egypt due to the heavy police presence.

2- I avoid isolated areas

In Cairo and other major cities in Egypt, it is recommended that if you are visiting popular areas to dress to cover your legs and arms.

However, no obligation to hide your hair and his advice does not apply to resorts.

If you follow the tips above, chances are you won't encounter a single untoward comment during your entire trip. And to put everything into context, sexual harassment in Egypt is not something that will pose any real danger to you – it's just annoying and really unnecessary, and the government and the police are trying to crack down on it these days.

As you will have understood, Egypt is a very safe country. If there are a few tips to follow to adapt to local habits and customs, it's nothing compared to the magnificent memories that a trip to Egypt will give you.
